| Mau Forest Update |
Mau Forest Update This one is heating up again. Over the weekend, a section of Rift Valley MPs endorsed the burning of questionnaires sent in from the Prime Minister's office, a task force that has been set up, and which sent the questionnaires (which questionnaires MPs declared illegal for not bearing the government's coat of arms).

| News: On Waki |
News: On Waki The report persists
as the talk of the town here, with the media almost hysterical in their
condemnation of anyone who dares question the accepted wisdom while a consensus
seems clear among the politicians that a local solution, i.e. the tribunal is
best placed to serve Kenya's interests.

Waki at Safari Park Just got done with the news and such discussion as ofen succeeds it.
The Parliament is at Safari Park, mixing it with diplomats, civil
society leaders, etc for what the papers describe as a high level
seminar on the
Power-Sharing deal and on-going reconciliation efforts.

Waki-ing up to Reality Surprise, surprise! It now emerges that the change of mind by principals in ODM and PNU regarding the implementation of the Waki report had nothing to do with the interests of Kenyans at large.

| Grand Opposition, a hollow attempt at popularity |
 | Grand Opposition, a hollow attempt at popularity The idea of a grand opposition as propounded by a section of members of parliament from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is to say the least, a dishonest move aimed at making a name. As I will highlight in this article, the timing of this clamor is not in the best interest of Kenyans.

 | Kenya, Zimbabwe Say No to Democracy As I watched Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe and the country's opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai sign a ‘Power Sharing Deal’, I was struck that Kenya, we who introduced the ‘power sharing deals’ to cover up election debacles, might have done a greater dis-service to Kenyans, Africa and the world at large in terms of the very concepts enshrined in the word ‘Democracy.’

The looming class war in Kenya I remember reading, almost a year ago, an article by the former member of parliament for Subukia, Hon. Koigi Wamwere, that spoke of a section of Kenyans retreating to high-walled complexes in search of solace and security. The fact is, there is a rise in the number of Kenyans who grow richer by the day, but who no longer feel safe and need to move to new neighbourhoods and invest in more security; it is these to whom Koigi referred.

 | What Can the Exit Poll Tell us About the Kenyan Voter? Exit polls, surveys taken of voters as they leave polling centers, provide the most comprehensive information on the issues, perceptions and attitudes that matter to voters selecting candidates for office. They are used worldwide to help scholars, politicians, parties and citizens understand these important characteristics of the electorate.

Elderkin vs Throup
It isn't news that the Standard isn't a neutral paper. Two instances - their reporting of Balala's remark, and their reporting of the International Crisis Group's report on Kenya - serve to establish that claim. If you followed the Kriegler Commission's hearings, and you should have, you ought not to have followed them via the Standard, because some of the commentary on the hearing was egregiously biased. I'm referring, as you might have guessed, to Sarah Elderkin's pieces on the 17th and ...
