Dear Readers,
Kindly bear with us as we
complete the installation of the new website. We will be fully functional in a
short while. Thank you for your patience. In the meantime here is a guide to
the workings of the new website. It is very different from the old website that
much is true, but it also works much better and has more scope for growth. Here
are a few pointers.
Front Page, New Articles and New Blogs
All
the new editor-sanctioned
content will be displayed on the front page, i.e. on this page. You do
not need to go anywhere else to find it. When a new article is posted
it will
appear either under the Editors' Picks tab above, or underneath the tabs section
here on the front page. Up to sixteen articles can now be displayed on the
front page. So if you are looking for new content, you will find it right here on the front page. In contrast, new blogs or diaries will be displayed on
the blogs front page. This
content is entirely user-generated and is presented undelayed and unedited. Any registered user can start a blog, upload a video or join the gallery
. The gallery is specially set up as a platform for Kenyan artists and
photographers to display their work, in the way others do with their
writing.
The
content under the other tabs is a snapshot, an aggregation of what the
latest news is under those content categories. For example, we will
publish a snapshot of the day's events in politics under the Politics
Today tab and global events will be published under the World Today
tab. Content is only on the front page temporarily, a few days after it
is published there it will be moved to its topical homepage, e.g.
Politics, Culture, etc from where users can continue to access it.
Sections
This same principle is
repeated in all the sections, Politics,
Economy,
Money, Society, Culture, Traveler
and Technology
and Science. The new content is displayed on the front page of the
particular section. It is split into categories and the newest content from these
categories is displayed under the tabs which can be found under the section's
slideshow. These slideshows are also a snapshot of what is new in each section.
Comments, New Articles, New Diaries
The last 10 comments
will be displayed on the first tab to the bottom right of the home
page. These are comments from all the sections of the website
including blogs and front-page articles. The next tab will display the
20 newest articles, and the next one will show the ten latest blogs or
diaries. Remember the difference is that blogs are unedited and can be
sent up as soon as the author publishes them. Every registered user can
set up his own and submit his own blogs. If you find you cannot
navigate this, please write the editors we will be happy to help.
Contacting Us, Submitting work
The top group of tabs on the front page displays first of all a
login/ register button. The next one displays a button with email
addresses you can use to contact us, and the third has a link which
users who are signed in can use to Submit Content for publication on
the front page, i.e. in the main magazine. Remember if you would like
to submit to your own blog, you should instead use the Diaries and Blogs link on the Home Menu at the top right hand side of this page, and then on Manage Blog in the subsequent page.
